dissociation and attention

 

As stated earlier, the word most often used as a synonym for the word consciousness is the word awareness.  To be conscious is to be aware, and to be aware is to be aware of something.  That is about as far as most people get when they try to focus their conscious awareness on what it means to have conscious awareness.  Most people experience their conscious awareness without much conscious awareness of their conscious awareness.  I have learned the easiest way to get someone to focus their conscious awareness on their conscious awareness is to accuse them of being without conscious awareness.    
 

To become aware of something requires the focus of attention.  Attention is a relational process.  Focusing attention on one aspect of consciousness requires the relative dissociation.....
